EICR & Electrical Testing Questions

What is an EICR?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is an inspection of the electrical installation within a property. It checks the condition of wiring, sockets, fuse boards and other electrical components to confirm they are safe.

In most cases landlords are required to have an Electrical Installation Condition Report carried out every five years. Regular inspections help confirm the electrical installation remains safe for tenants.

The time required depends on the size of the property and the number of electrical circuits. Most domestic inspections are completed within a few hours.

If issues are identified during the inspection, the report will highlight them and explain any work required to bring the electrical installation up to current safety standards.

EV Charger Questions

Can an EV charger be installed at any home?

Most homes can have an EV charger installed, although the electrical supply and fuse board may need to be assessed first. Our electricians can confirm whether installation is suitable for your property.

Most EV charger installations are completed within a few hours, depending on the location of the charger and the existing electrical supply.

Yes. EV chargers require a dedicated electrical circuit to ensure safe operation and to meet current electrical regulations.

Rewires & Electrical Upgrades

How do I know if my property needs a rewire?

Signs that a property may need rewiring include outdated fuse boards, damaged wiring, frequent tripping of circuits or electrical installations that have not been inspected for many years.

The time required depends on the size of the property and the amount of work required. Smaller properties may take a few days, while larger homes may take longer.

Rewiring involves accessing wiring within walls, ceilings and floors, so some disruption is unavoidable. Our electricians aim to complete the work as efficiently as possible and keep disruption to a minimum.
